Has anybody ever done something that rubbed you the wrong way?
Acted in a way that you felt was inconsiderate?
Said something that upset you?
It’s natural in situations such as this to assume the worst.
That they’re a “bad” person.
That they’re mean.
That they’re rude.
Yet, isn’t it possible that this was a tough moment for them?
That perhaps they aren’t in the best state of mind?
Could it be that their actions were simply the result of a bad day?
Or their own misinterpretation of somebody else’s actions?
What would happen if you assumed the best?
What if you gave them the benefit of the doubt?
What if we all took such an approach?
What if we all assumed the best of one another?
How would that world look?
Others may wrong you.
Treat you unfairly.
Grind your gears.
You don’t know what kind of day they’re having.
Problems they’re facing.
Pain they’re feeling.
Before resentment, contempt, or anger.
Consider compassion, empathy, and love.
We’re all in this together.
Doing the best we can.
We might not always do this well.
But the vast majority of us are trying.
You are worthy of a life free of resentment.
Free of contempt.
Free of anger.
Full of compassion.
Full of empathy.
Full of love.
We can only start with ourselves.
Start with you.
You’ve got this.
