Reflecting on one’s own abilities has its value.
Taking a step back.
Asking, “what do I do well?”
“What do I not do so well?”
Some of us do this regularly, deliberately, in an attempt to know ourselves.
Understand our strengths and weaknesses.
Others of us do this without thought.
Constantly judging ourselves.
This pattern can lead to dwelling on those things we don’t do too well.
Reminding ourselves of all the ways we’re inadequate.
All the ways we’re less than
It’s a tough pattern to break, especially if we’ve been doing it for years and decades.
Yet it’s worth considering if a shift in perspective can help.
Reframing how we view what our strengths and weaknesses do and do not say about us.
The things you do poorly will always outnumber the things you do well.
How this affects your life is up to you.
You could ruminate over it.
Beat yourself up.
Or you could recognize your potential to shine through what you do well.
To grow through those things you don’t.
We all have strengths.
We all have weaknesses.
What’s the value in one without the other?
How would the world function if we didn’t all have complementary abilities?
Things we can do for one another and things for which we depend on others?
You’ll never be good at everything.
You’ll never be good at most things.
There will always be room for growth.
Always need to seek help.
Opportunity to grow.
To challenge yourself.
To experience the satisfaction of pursuing a worth goal.
Shoring up weaknesses.
Likewise, there will always be opportunity to shine.
To offer help.
To be that hero.
Are you letting your weaknesses get in the way of celebrating your strengths?
Overlooking the opportunities both your strengths and weaknesses offer?
You are worthy of nothing but the best life.
With all of your strengths.
And all of your weaknesses.
You’ve got this.
