That feeling as though you are a disappointment.
As though you’ve failed, and always will.
A dark cloud following you wherever you go.
A pit deep in your stomach.
Embarrassed to show your face.
Your actions, your life, are not what you wanted.
Not what you expect others have wanted.
For that, you feel as though you’re not worthy.
Worthy of respect.
From yourself or anybody else.
And this feeling follows you wherever you go.
So you just want to hide.
Because of who you see that you are.
Who you see in the mirror.
The things you’ve said and done.
You might feel that you are worthy and capable of more.
Realize that you’re not who you want to be.
Recognize your mistakes.
Regret your past.
But be vigilant against shame.
What purpose does shame serve?
How does it ever contribute to your best life?
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to improve.
With saying, “I want better.”
“I can do better.”
This does not call, however, for beating yourself up.
For feeling less than.
You are flawed.
That much is undeniable.
But that’s what makes you, you.
None of us are perfect.
We are all deeply flawed.
Yet we are all also stronger than we can imagine.
More capable than we know.
That includes you.
If you want more for yourself.
If you’re not pleased with who you’ve been.
Do the work.
You are worthy.
You’ve got this.
