We’re often short-sighted when it comes to making change.
We identify a goal.
We see it as a goal that we’d like for the long run.
Something that will benefit us indefinitely.
Reaching a healthy body composition.
Improving our strength and conditioning.
Pursuing a new degree or certificate.
We understand that these are worthy goals.
We understand, too, that such goals require effort.
We’re up to the task.
We’re fired up.
We’re ready to go all in.
We overhaul our kitchen.
We bust our ass in the gym.
We hit the books hard.
We put in the work, day in and day out.
Sometimes, we have no problem maintaining such tenacity.
Other times, we lose momentum.
We realize such an approach integrates poorly with other commitments.
We learn that the goal isn’t worth the effort.
We may simply get burnt out.
So, we quit.
Worse, yet, can be if we actually reach our goal.
We feel trapped in this cycle.
We must choose between continuing to overextend ourselves or lose our progress.
We didn’t take the time to find a sustainable approach.
You might white-knuckle your way through a diet.
Push through a daily, intense training program.
Dedicate all of your time and energy to a goal.
Will you maintain what you achieve?
Will you be able to keep it up?
Whatever you do to get there, you’ll have to do to stay there.
Put yourself in a position where you can keep going.
Seek an approach that seems too easy.
Establish consistency first.
If need be, you can dial things up.
It’s okay to get excited about a goal.
To want to jump in head first.
To pursue a better life.
It’s also okay to take some time.
To choose long-term progress.
To recognize that you are worthy of patience.
You might not get there as quickly.
You’ll stay there, however, much longer.
Take your time.
Do things right.
You are worthy.
