Life doesn’t always go how we plan.
Or how we’d like.
Things completely out of our control throw us curveballs.
Our actions don’t give us the results we want.
It’s tempting to look externally for the cause.
To shift blame.
To look to everything but ourselves for justification for our circumstances.
This might even be warranted.
We might have legitimate reason to say, “my life sucks and it’s not my fault”.
When it happens repeatedly, we can internalize this attitude.
We assume it’s just how things are.
Who we are.
We throw up our hands and say, “story of my life”.
And you might be right.
Your circumstances might not be your fault.
However, they are your responsibility.
And you are stronger and more capable than you know.
To change your story.
To change your life.
And nobody has as much power to do so as you do.
Your story is not set in stone.
It’s shaped your circumstances.
Served as a teacher.
What happens now is up to you.
That’s all you can hope to affect.
You have constraints.
You also have your strengths.
You just might find the challenge is what’s most satisfying.
If you don’t like your story, change it.
Things might still be hard.
They probably will be.
Explore your options.
Rather than focus on what you can’t do, what can you do?
What role might you be playing in your circumstances?
What might you do to shift things toward your favor?
What step, no matter how small, might you take?
What is something that you do really freaking well?
How can you leverage that in your favor?
Are there any common patterns in your life?
Anything you’ve been trying that’s just not working?
Is your plan really worth pursuing?
What if a different approach can lead you to the same outcome?
Don’t give up.
Don’t resign to a sob story.
You are worth more than that.
You are capable of more than that.
You’ve got this.
